Battery-Powered IEPE Power Supplies Explained

Not every vibration measurement takes place in a laboratory or near a convenient source of AC power. For field testing, troubleshooting, and portable test and measurement applications, CTC offers battery-powered IEPE power supplies that allow engineers and technicians to power accelerometers wherever measurements need to be taken.

The CTC PS01A and PS03A provide portable constant-current excitation for IEPE accelerometers and piezo velocity sensors, allowing sensor signals to be connected to oscilloscopes, data acquisition systems, analyzers, and other test and measurement equipment.

Why Use An External IEPE Power Supply?

IEPE accelerometers require constant-current excitation to operate. Some data acquisition systems and vibration analyzers provide this power internally, but many test instruments, including oscilloscopes, do not.

An external IEPE power supply provides the required excitation while passing the sensor’s vibration signal to the measurement device.

With a battery-powered supply, this measurement chain can be used without relying on AC line power, making it ideal for portable testing and measurements in the field.

The CTC PS01A is designed for applications where a single IEPE accelerometer or piezo velocity sensor needs to be powered.

Its compact, battery-powered design makes it a convenient option for individual sensor measurements, field troubleshooting, laboratory testing, and oscilloscope-based vibration measurements.

PS03A Three-Channel Portable IEPE Power

When an application requires multiple sensors, the CTC PS03A provides three channels of battery-powered IEPE excitation in one portable unit.

This makes the PS03A well suited for multi-sensor measurements where carrying multiple individual power supplies would be inconvenient.
